Heaven, how do I get there?

Society today is filled with many of man's philosophies and teachings. How do we know what is truth.

“For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.” --1 Thessalonians 2:13

“Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” --John 17:17

God's Word is truth. We cannot rely on what man says, we must rely on what God has said in His word. So, what does God's word say about Heaven and how to get there?

There are 4 basic things that we need to realize and believe in order to go to Heaven.

1. We have to realize that we are all sinner:

“As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:” --Romans 3:10

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” --Romans 3:23

The bible here states that none are righteous and all of us have sinned. Have you ever told a lie? Have you every taken something that isn't yours? Everybody has done wrong and fallen short of the glory of God.

You must realize you are a sinner, before you can see your need of a saviour.

2. There is a penalty for our sin:

“For the wages of sin is death..." --Romans 6:23a

Wages are something that we earn for something that we do. A job is an example, we get paid what we are owed for the work we do. The payment for our sins is death.

“But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” --Revelation 21:8

We all have a physical death, someday we will die, there is no way around this. What the bible is talking about here, is a spiritual death, a second death if you will. We determine where we spend eternity here in this life, today is the day of salvation. We do not know when we will die, people die everyday, and for many it is too late.

The penalty for our sin is death in Hell. Without Chirst, we are condemned to an eternity in Hell.

3. Jesus Christ paid that penalty for us:

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” --Romans 5:8

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” --John 3:16

God loves us so much, that he sent his only son to die for us, to pay the price for our sins. He become our substitute on the cross of Calvary, so that we could in turn, have everlasting life.

“...but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” --Romans 6:23b

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” --Ephesians 2:8-9

Jesus Christ is God's gift to mankind. A gift is FREE, it does not have to be worked for, and it doesn't have to be earned in anyway whatsoever. All you have to do in order to receive a gift from someone, is reach out and take it. That's what Christ offers today, free salvation to all those that believe.

4. We must put our faith and trust in Christ as our personal saviour:

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. ” --Romans 10:9-10

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” --Romans 10:13

Friend, why don't you bow your head in prayer right now, and ask Jesus to forgive you of your sins, and to come into your heart and save you.

You can follow this prayer if you need help: Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and that I deserve Hell. I realize you died for me on the cross to save me. Please forgive me, and come into my heart and save me. I am trusting only in you for my eternal salvation. Help me now that I am saved, to serve you faithfully. Thank You, Lord Jesus. Amen.

Did you by faith ask Jesus to come into your heart and save you? If so, then by the authority of the Word of God, you are saved.

“In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;” --Titus 1:2

“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:” --John 1:12
